Fantasy and Technique

In 2014, Dominique decided to experiment with varnish on fabrics. The result is more than pleasant to her. When the Vermont Quilt Festival proposed the theme Whimsical for their contest, the fiber artist could resist: she dived into this Whimsy adventure.

Infused with magic

In the background, a story emerged: Dominique imagined a young girl discovering a special soap formula that creates bubbles with quilt blocks inside. When the bubbles fly away, the wind makes them burst and allows the quilts to be free.

Like a comic

Contest particularities: the batik orange and purple fabric is imposed and the shape also. The square shape doesn’t inspire at all Dominique. She divides the canvas into three rectangular zones allowing a variety of backstories to grow in each of them and creating a shape that further pleases her.
